Thin-Wall Machining
One of the machining areas that Intrex excels at is producing thin-walled machined parts for aerospace and defense applications. We produce both milled and turned parts in a variety of sizes and shapes and in a range of materials. Much of our equipment and fixturing is built around this core capability. We can generate and machine 5-axis simultaneously on dual spindle machines, eliminating the need for multiple setups and minimizing work holding. This further helps minimize tolerance stack-up, by reducing the need to move the part from the machine and/or fixture.
Our experience and CNC equipment give us a leg up in producing complex thin-walled machined parts. Depending on demand and volume, we can efficiently produce these types of parts on a number of different machining platforms.
Quality Assurance
Another important aspect of producing thin-walled machined parts is having the ability to measure them in an accurate and timely manner. This is where our years of experience and having the proper measuring equipment come into play.
Producing thin-walled machined components for aerospace, space, and defense requires a high degree of quality control. At Intrex Aerospace, our quality assurance guarantees quality parts at the end of the manufacturing process. We also provide our customers with detailed information on the steps we take to ensure the quality throughout production. We’ve invested in a quality management software package, which is integrated with our Epicor system. This software allows us to track a range of quality control metrics, such as CPk and SPCs. We can also use it to generate reports that allow our customers to see how we’ve improved quality and reduced waste throughout the production of their precision components.
Our entire shop is flowed through our AS 9100 quality system. Internal to our flow process, we utilize CNC CMMs in work cells on our shop floor, as well as in our climate-controlled quality lab. We use multiple quality metrics (IQS, TQM, SPC) to monitor and measure our parts as they flow through our shop. Our PPMs average less than 100 PPMs. All quality and production are monitored through our Epicor ERP/MRP system.
In addition to precision machining, we have extensive experience in managing complex “program” business. We work with our customers from development through production and shipment. Our experience with monitoring and managing LTAs and being able to provide real-time order status and documentation is a great benefit to our customers, creating opportunities for efficiencies and cost reductions.
We also manage the outsourcing of special processes including chem film, anodizing, heat treatment, magnetic particle inspection, passivation, etc. When needed, we can provide some assembly (application specific) and kitting for aircraft components and defense parts.
