Are Measurement(s) of Your Company Core Values Included in Your Employee Performance Process?
Many companies have stated core values. These values help articulate company principles and define a set of company beliefs, which gives a company better focus and direction. In most instances, these values are printed and shared with its customers and sometimes with the public at large, but many times these important values are not emphasized or regularly discussed within the company itself, or with their employees.
At Intrex Aerospace, we believe strongly in the importance of our core values. We want them understood and reinforced in all facets of our business. They are included in peer and performance employee reviews. They are also included as part of our hiring methods, criteria for promotion, and project performance.
Employee knowledge of company core values can be of great assistance in helping employees make good decisions in sometimes difficult work situations. Knowledge and implementation of these values can drive desired behavior at a company. If you get them right, you will find everybody rowing the company boat in the right direction. If an employee is failing at one of more of the core values, they can stop the company boat from moving forward, or worse yet, sink.
We are constantly educating and reinforcing our employees on our company core values. As mentioned above, part of this education/reinforcing process is including our values in our yearly peer reviews. These reviews are partly based on how the employee contributes to the core values of our company. Additionally, each manager reviews core value performance with their employee during their monthly one-on-one meetings.

After making this core value education/recognition/review process part of our company culture, we have seen many positive results. It is a great tool for building better employee communication, increasing productivity, and establishing trust.
